Brighton to London Ultramarathon

April 26th 2025

A classic race between the two cities

Classic footraces between the Capital and Brighton have taken place since 1837.  There is a rich history of many events and challenges, mainly as a road race, right up to 2005 when it was determined that a road race was no longer a viable option due to traffic concerns.

In 2024 and Cockbain Events and Beyond Marathon revived the pairing of the cities, as a trail race.  In a twist to the original, going in the reverse direction.

The 2024 event was very well received, sold out quickly and throughly enjoyed by all.  [NEW] We have made a change for the 2025 route, an alternative section to cross the dam at Ardingly Reservoir for a more picturesque route and  faster travel.  We also have a new final CP location at Cheam (rather than Banstead). Apart from that, the route remains with same. It uses a combination or major trails like the South Downs Way, Sussex Border Path and London Loop, and a few quiet sections of country lane. The route becomes predominantly road/tarmac as you get close to London.

We have an early start to the race to enable most of the participants to finish in time to be able to use rail links to get home to most of the country and not necessarily have to stay in London, unless you are making a weekend of it with the family of course!

The route has an overall cut-off time of 18.5 hours. Optional, graded medals for; Finisher, sub-14 and sub-12 hours.
